\"\"Virgin Valley High School will be celebrating its Homecoming Week next week from Oct. 11-16. The \u201cHigh School Musical\u201d themed week of festivities begins with various dress-up days at school, includes a parade down the main street, and ends with the big Homecoming game and a dance.<\/p>

Plans for the parade were still in the works last week. The big downtown event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 13 beginning at 6 pm along Mesquite Blvd.<\/p>

An invitation for the Grand Marshal of the 2021 Homecoming Parade has been extended, but no final word had been heard by The Progress press deadline on whether the honor had been accepted. More will be available on that later.<\/p>

Due to CCSD COVID restrictions, the Parade is not sponsored by the school itself. Instead it is community-hosted. Businesses are desperately needed for float participation. Those interested in supporting this homecoming celebration may contact Malia McOmie at 435-668-1065 or Lydia Wakefield at 702-815-5182. As of this edition\u2019s publication, not a single business had signed up to participate in the Parade.<\/p>

Each day of Homecoming Week has a different theme within the halls of VVHS. For example on Monday, the theme of the day is \u201cThe Boys are Back.\u201d Students are encouraged to wear Bulldog attire. There will also be a drive-in movie at the school at 7 P.M.<\/p>

Tuesday\u2019s theme is \u201cFabulous Fancy attire\u201d. A \u201cpink out\u201d will be observed at the girls\u2019 soccer game which begins at 4:30 P.M.<\/p>

On Wednesday, the theme will be \u201cBop to the Top\u201d Decade\u2019s day with the downtown parade starting at 5 P.M.<\/p>

On Thursday it is \u201cWe\u2019re all in this Together\u201d Squad Day with a \u201cBeach Out\u201d clothing attire at the Girls\u2019 Volleyball game starting at 7 P.M.<\/p>

Friday\u2019s theme will be \u201cGetcha Head in the Game\u201d with a \u201cWhite Out\u201d attire for the football game at 7 pm. A tailgate party will start at 5 pm
\u201cThe High School Musical theme actually plays into our school theme for the year, which is \u2018The Dawgs are Back\u2019,\u201d said Tyra Ludvigson, junior SBO Officer.<\/p>

Travis Terry, the junior SBO secretary said, \u201cThis is our first time planning a dance!\u201d The SBO was too young to plan a dance before the COVID pandemic began last year. So with this being their first experience, the student leaders don\u2019t really know the difference between a pre-COVID dance and a post-COVID dance, Terry said. \u201cIt just feels normal,\u201d he said.<\/p>

VVHS Assistant Principal Stephen Waite, who oversees activities at the school said, \u201cIt is so nice to have the kids back in school and planning things. It is good to have some sense of normalcy again.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cWe are especially grateful for the community because they are really taking the brunt load of the dance and the parade,\u201d Waite added. \u201cCCSD still has a lot of COVID restrictions, so they stepped up and are doing things that we can\u2019t. If it wasn\u2019t for parents and student council, this would not be happening. We have the best community!\u201d<\/p>

Lydia Wakefield, a senior and head of the dance committee SBO, explains, \u201cWe can do so much more for homecoming if it is hosted by the community instead of the school. We hope this is the first of 5 or 6 community hosted dances.\u201d<\/p>

There is an Instagram page (and a Facebook page coming soon) called \u201cvirgin.valley.bc\u201d where information about upcoming dances and information on how to help will be posted.<\/p>

\u201cIf I could make just points,\u201d Wakefield said, \u201cit would be that, number one, we need business to sign up to be in the parade or it will be a very short parade with only floats from the high school. Number two, we need help with funding and volunteering for future dances from the community.\u201d<\/p>
